A milling machine uses rotary cutters to remove material. With our CNC milling machines, we have the capabilities of automatic tool changers, tool carousels, CNC control, and coolant systems. These machines have the ability to run along the Z-axis, which provides great flexibility. Milling machines are used extensively for tooling and provide the technology needed to produce your specific stamping needs.
Quick Die Change
Once your stamping needs are assessed, the use of a die will commence. This die can either be an existing one in the shop inventory or a specifically designed die for your industry purposes. These die stamps are used to press your parts and the idea of a quick die change is important in the stamping industry. The ability to quickly change a die when working within a shop is important. The die is often large and cumbersome, and industry professionals like Phoenix Specialty Manufacturing have the tools, methods, and processes to quickly change out a die to aid in the quick turnaround times.
The precision cuts provided by Phoenix Specialty Manufacturing don’t happen on their own; they are cut with a shearing machine. These guillotine-like machines are for shearing metal down to the appropriate thickness for the stamping process. With modern shearing machines, we have the ability to shear material up to .187″ thick and 144″ long. In fact, it is capable of shearing 1/8″ (10 GA) material to within ±0.005 inch of the back gauge setting.
Around for decades, fineblanking combines the process of fine-metal extrusion and metal stamping. Fineblanking is normally used to produce parts with smooth and extremely precise edges. In conventional stamping—to blank and pierce—the punch coming in contact with the work piece induces highly compressive stresses as well as plastic deformation. Ideally, during this process, the material is expected to reach its rupture point abruptly, essentially breaking the material into the required shape. With new technology, fineblanking can produce stamping for parts with 3D features.
