In 1907, Phoenix Specialty Manufacturing opened a small production plant in New York City to make custom parts for the railroad. The company evolved and expanded to become what is today the leading supplier of custom washers, spacers, and precision stampings for Original Equipment Manufacturers in the U.S.
The company began limited production in Bamberg, South Carolina in 1966 and ten years later moved all manufacturing to its current location. Phoenix is now in its third generation of family-owned management and, with 90 employees, is one of the largest private employers in Bamberg County.
Phoenix Specialty serves over 3,000 OEM customers and supplies tens of thousands of unique, custom components each year from 140,000 square feet of office, manufacturing, and warehousing space. The custom job shop specializes in short and medium runs, and the company most values its reputation for being the fastest supplier of custom parts. Product quality and reliable service are two other critical areas whereby the company differentiates itself from competitors. New custom washers are delivered within a maximum of two weeks. Phoenix Specialty Manufacturing is AS-9100 and ISO 9001-2000 registered and was one of the first companies in the U.S. to be registered to the AS-9000 standard for aircraft manufacturing.
The company is celebrating its anniversary throughout the year and held an open house for major customers and suppliers on Thursday, March 15th. Robert Hurst, president, welcomed visitors with tours, refreshments and traditional southern hospitality. “This is an incredible moment for Phoenix Specialty Manufacturing,” Hurst said. “Today, as we celebrate 100 years of operation, we want to take time to thank the many people… our customers, our suppliers, and our employees… who have made this day possible.”
